Inflammatory Bowel Disease – IBD Outpatient Clinic

Inflammatory Bowel Disease – IBD Outpatient Clinic

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), including ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, is a chronic autoinflammatory health condition (the human body attacks itself), affecting parts or the whole gastrointestinal tract and, in  many patients, also affecting the joints, skin, eyes or even liver.

IBD patients are in need of regular follow-up visits, lab tests, imaging and endoscopic procedures. Being proactive is the best way to ensure the disease will not or will only minimally affect the quality of one’s life. We follow more than 1,100 IBD patients covering a population of nearly 800,000 people (Crete, islands of the southern Aegean Sea). We provide a comprehensive follow-up and advanced treatments in complicated disease.

In detail, we offer

a) outpatient IBD clinics (twice a week: Friday and Monday),

b) arrangements for endoscopy of the upper (esophagus, stomach, duodenum) and lower (colon, terminal ileum) gastrointestinal tract in our well-equipped endoscopy suite in a devoted day for IBD patients (Friday),

c) multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings with radiologists and pathologists with a special interest on diseases of the gastrointestinal tract to discuss imaging and biopsy findings,

d) referral to surgeons with experience in IBD, and

e) prompt hospitalization in the Department of Gastroenterology if needed (with daily rounds from a devoted IBD team of gastroenterologists)

to patients already diagnosed or with possible IBD in regular follow-up visits or disease flares.

We also welcome new patients if their physician suspects they may suffer from IBD.

In non-emergencies, please contact our devoted IBD secretary, Mrs Anna Psoma, at (+30) 281340 2793 or gi.clinic.pagni@gmail.com. A short medical note from your physician would be of value.
